SAGAMI CDG9672CB High-Current SMD Power Inductor Combines 0.27 mΩ DCR with Up to 92.7 A Saturation Current

As automotive ECUs, motherboards, graphics cards, and high-performance computing platforms demand increasingly higher core current, power-conversion systems must deliver faster transient response while controlling conduction loss and temperature rise. At current levels reaching tens of amperes, even a small difference in inductor resistance can have a measurable impact on efficiency, thermal performance, and system stability.

The SAGAMI CDG9672CB is a high-current SMD power-inductor series featuring low DCR, high DC saturation current, ±15% inductance tolerance, AEC-Q200 compliance, and an operating-temperature range from -40°C to +150°C. It is designed for automotive ECUs, computers, motherboards, graphics cards, peripheral equipment, and high-current power supplies.

0.27 mΩ Maximum DCR Reduces High-Current Conduction Loss

In a high-current DC/DC converter, inductor copper loss increases with the square of RMS current. As current rises, DCR becomes increasingly important to efficiency and thermal performance.

All three CDG9672CB inductance options provide a maximum DCR of 0.27 mΩ. This low resistance helps reduce winding loss and component heating while preserving thermal margin for processors, GPUs, automotive controllers, and other low-voltage, high-current loads.

Reducing inductor loss can also help minimize PCB hot spots, ease system-level cooling requirements, and improve voltage stability under sustained heavy loads.

Three Inductance Options with Up to 92.7 A DC Saturation Current

The CDG9672CB series is available in 200 nH, 390 nH, and 590 nH versions, each with a ±15% inductance tolerance.

Part Number Inductance Maximum DCR DC Saturation Allowable Current Temperature-Rise Allowable Current
CDG9672CB-R20L 200nH ±15% 0.27mΩ 92.7A 48.9A
CDG9672CB-R39L 390nH ±15% 0.27mΩ 45.7A 48.9A
CDG9672CB-R59L 590nH ±15% 0.27mΩ 29.1A 48.9A

SAGAMI defines DC saturation allowable current as the current at which inductance decreases by 20% from its initial value. Temperature-rise allowable current is defined by a 40°C rise at the core surface. The official rated-current definition requires designers to use the lower of these two limits. Based on that definition, the governing values for the R20L, R39L, and R59L are 48.9 A, 45.7 A, and 29.1 A, respectively, before system-level thermal derating.

Flexible Tradeoffs Between Transient Response and Ripple

A lower inductance value can improve response to rapid load changes, although it may increase ripple current. A higher inductance value can reduce ripple but requires careful evaluation of transient behavior and saturation margin.

The three available values allow engineers to balance these requirements:

● 200 nH: Up to 92.7 A DC saturation current for very high-current, fast-transient rails.
● 390 nH: A balanced option for ripple control and current capability.
● 590 nH: Lower ripple potential with a 29.1 A saturation-current limit.

AEC-Q200 Compliance and -40°C to +150°C Operation

The CDG9672CB is AEC-Q200 compliant and supports an operating-temperature range from -40°C to +150°C, including self-heating. These characteristics support use in automotive electronics and thermally demanding computing and power-conversion environments.

The final thermal assessment must account for ambient temperature, inductor self-heating, nearby power components, airflow, and PCB heat spreading to ensure operation remains within the specified temperature range.

SMD Construction for ECUs, Motherboards, and Graphics Cards

The CDG9672CB measures approximately 14.4mm × 9.6mm × 7.2mm and is designed for automated SMD assembly. Official applications include automotive ECUs, computers, peripheral devices, motherboards, graphics cards, and power supplies.

Potential applications include:

● Automotive ECUs and vehicle DC/DC converters
● CPU, GPU, and AI accelerator power rails
● Motherboard and graphics-card voltage regulators
● Servers and high-performance computing systems
● Industrial high-current power modules
● Low-voltage, high-current point-of-load converters

System-Level Thermal and Electrical Validation Remains Essential

Although the CDG9672CB provides high saturation current and very low DCR, actual current capability depends on PCB layout, land pattern, copper area, airflow, ambient temperature, switching frequency, and current waveform.

Design validation should include:

● Peak current versus saturation-current limits
● RMS current versus temperature-rise limits
● DCR increase at elevated temperature
● Ripple current and transient current peaks
● PCB current-carrying and thermal capability
● Converter switching-loop area
● Surface temperature in the final enclosure
● EMI, ringing, and output-ripple measurements

SAGAMI provides DC-bias and temperature-rise curves, frequency-characteristic data, and a SPICE model for the CDG9672CB to support simulation and system verification.

More Efficiency Margin for High-Current Power Rails

By combining 0.27 mΩ maximum DCR, up to 92.7 A DC saturation current, 48.9 A temperature-rise current, ±15% inductance tolerance, and AEC-Q200 compliance, the SAGAMI CDG9672CB provides a high-current inductor platform for ECUs, motherboards, graphics cards, and demanding DC/DC converters.
