240W PD Power Solution

Dongke 240W PD Power Solution

Dongke DK8526 240 W PD Power Solution: Four Core Devices Deliver a Coordinated Design with Up to 95.88% Full-Load Efficiency

High-power USB-C supplies must balance output capability, conversion efficiency, component placement, and thermal management. Coordinating power factor correction, isolated conversion, and secondary-side rectification gives charger and laptop-adapter developers a clearer architecture for design and validation.

The DK Power Dongke 240 W PD power solution combines the DK3603AG PFC controller, DK130G70 GaN power device with an integrated driver, DK8526 AHB GaN power-conversion IC, and DK3708A synchronous rectifier controller. The platform supports a single USB-C output delivering 48 V at 5 A, providing a reference for high-power PD chargers and laptop power adapters.

Four Core Devices with Clearly Defined Roles

The DK3603AG handles PFC control, working with the front-end power and magnetic components. The DK130G70 combines a GaN power device with its driver, bringing switching and drive functions into a more consolidated implementation.

The DK8526 performs asymmetric half-bridge conversion, while the DK3708A controls external MOSFETs for secondary-side synchronous rectification. These defined roles allow engineers to evaluate each stage before optimizing the complete power-conversion chain.

Dual 700 V GaN Integration in the DK8526

The DK8526 integrates two 700 V GaN power devices in an ESOP-20 package for AHB conversion. Consolidation reduces some of the interconnections associated with a discrete implementation and provides a focused starting point for power-stage layout.

The transformer, capacitors, feedback network, and other application components remain part of the complete supply. Reference-design guidance and measurements of switching behavior help engineers balance conversion losses, component stress, and thermal requirements.

Synchronous Rectification with External MOSFET Flexibility

The DK3708A controls external synchronous rectifier MOSFETs. This allows the secondary power devices to be selected around the output current, conduction losses, and available cooling.

The controller, MOSFETs, drive conditions, and PCB layout should be evaluated together. Verifying switching timing and operation with the AHB stage provides a more complete assessment than selecting rectifier devices by a single electrical parameter.

Board-Level Integration from Both Sides

The component-side and reverse-side photographs provide a practical view of the reference platform. They help developers consider the relative placement of magnetics, power switches, control devices, and supporting circuitry before adapting the design to a product enclosure.

Review the schematic, BOM, and PCB data before adapting component placement, connectors, or cooling. After modifications, recheck switching waveforms, conversion efficiency, and temperature distribution in the actual hardware.

Full-Load Efficiency Up to 95.88%

With a 48 V / 5 A full-load output, the reference platform achieves 95.88% efficiency at 264 Vac input and 93.24% at 90 Vac input. These operating points provide a basis for comparing low-line and high-line performance.

Figure 4. Efficiency curve for the reference platform. Curve points follow the original test conditions; the separate 48 V / 5 A full-load results are listed below.

AC Input Output Condition Full-Load Efficiency
90 Vac 48 V / 5 A 93.24%
264 Vac 48 V / 5 A 95.88%

At a given output power, higher efficiency reduces power dissipated within the supply. Efficiency and temperature should therefore be measured together under the intended input, load, component, and enclosure conditions. This establishes the performance of the final product during sustained high-power operation.

From Reference Platform to Production Design

Dongke's 240 W PD platform brings PFC control, GaN switching, AHB conversion, and synchronous rectification into a coordinated design. Teams can use the core architecture as a starting point while adapting the mechanical arrangement, output management, and peripheral circuitry to their target equipment.

Begin with output and interface requirements, then review the schematic, component selection, and layout. Validate startup, load changes, output stability, and thermal performance before completing interoperability, emissions, and electrical-safety testing in the final product configuration.
